We've focused a lot on the upcoming 2023 Summer Sailstice Individual Plans and so it's time to switch gears a little bit and check out some of the Public events being featured this summer.
As a quick reminder, a public event is when you are inviting the public to participate in a sailing event, like an Open House. We've got 15+ Public Events posted to the 2023 Sailstice Map, so here's a recap of the first 10!
1. Gulf Coast Sailing - New Orleans, LA
Join Murray Yacht Sales for their open house event on June 24th!
2. 10th Annual Summer Sailstice Pursuit Race - Cherokee Lake, TN
This annual event includes the final race in the Spring Series and marks the start of the summer cruising season!
3. Sailstice Glow Regatta - Scottsville, KY
Join us at Port Oliver Yacht Club for the Summer Sailstice Glow Regatta: it's a race around Mason Island and ends with a raft-up. If you're in the area, check their Facebook page for updates!
4. SunSwept Charters - Santa Barbara, CA
Join Spencer McRae and his wife on their 35' SY Kelpie for a day on the water! Check out their charter business SunSwept Sailing for more info.
5. Afternoon Cruises - San Diego, CA
If you're sailing with a spiritual inclination, head out on the water with Captain Greg Tupaj. He will be running 3hour charters in San Diego over the Sailstice weekend with Sail San Diego.
6. Sailing in Space - Carter Lake, CO
Goal: Raft up on the lake! In the evening, the Carter Lake Sailing Club will host a presentation by local astronauts and space engineers about sailing technology in space! "We will also have telescopes available after dark and astronomers to guide us through the night constellations."
7. Savvy Sailor's Sunset Sail - Norman, OK
Teresa and Michael Galoob plan to roll on down to the Lake with their dinghy Rooster Class Sailboat in tow. on the evening of the Summer Sailstice. There's a public ramp to launch from so all Rooster Sailboat owners/sailors, &/or interested persons are welcome to join them!
8. St. Peter's Marina Seasonals - St. Peter's, Nova Scotia
Leave the Marina at noon and sail out to the Bras d'Or Lake for a day of socializing and fun. Option of anchoring out for the night for a BBQ and beverages/music - sounds fun, so anyone in the area should reach out to St. Peters area Lions Club and join in.
9. Sail Shediac - Shedia, New Brunswick
Be included in this years Summer Sailstace and be a part of the on waters fun filling the horizons with sails on Northumberland strait and the coves, the bays with mast and anchors, the beaches with fiends and bon fires and the atmosphere with laughter and good times. Make a weekend of it and make it yours. Their event begins Saturday June 24th 10 am off Pointe du Chene wharf, and eventually anchor out at Shediac Island! 2 and 4 legged crews welcome. Stay late into the evening or stay the night and wake up in the calmness of the island scenery enjoying breakfast and good coffee in starting a second day of water activities.
10. Summer Sailstice Race - North Bay, Ontario
Darin Mendoza of Blue Sky Sailing will be hosting a Summer Sailstice race this year - It's a friendly (competitive) race on Lake Nipissing with club boats and owned boats. All are welcome to join! ...and they'll need lots of crew. Check out their site to see how to get involved!
