The Steele Creek Yacht Club is hosting a Summer Sailstice on Kerr Lake in North Carolina. Kerr lake stretches across the North Carolina–Virginia border and offers more than 50,000 acres of water and 850 miles of shoreline — making it one of the largest reservoirs in the Southeast and a surprising gem for inland sailing. Steady breezes, open water, and scenic coves make Kerr Lake an inviting destination for sailors of all stripes, from novice cruisers to weekend racers.

On good days sailors find 10–15 knots of breeze sweeping down the long fetches of the lake. The wide expanses of open water make it easy to trim sails and stretch legs when sailing past its tree-lined bluffs. There's no commercial traffic and abundance of anchorages means sailors often have space to themselves, especially outside peak summer weekends.
Kerr Lake is one of the many amazing inland sailing venues appreciated for its sailing and its convenience, low traffic, and strong community that makes it a great sailing getaway.
