1st Place Prize winner goes to Naomi (and crew of course!) who submitted this sweet Summer Sailstice birthday video. Please watch the video on Youtube - it's a touching tribute to the longevity of some of the sailors in our lives who hand down the traditions from one generation to the next. Naomi writes, "I inherited my love of sailing from my Dad. From the early days watching him hand build a "snow boat" to taking many trips on his Hughes 31 in the Gulf Islands in B.C. I got to host he and his friends on a Catalina 30 my husband and I chartered for HIS 50th birthday celebration month. My Dad sold his boat in 2019, so it was great to see him at the helm again! The forecast was way off, with winds being much stronger than anticipated. BUT, the boat handled well as the Mainsail was under sized, and we reefed the jib slightly. We sailed out of Maple Bay Marina to Bourgogne Bay off Salt Spring Island. The intention was to anchor and have lunch on the hook. Our plans were thwarted when we dragged anchor and then spent 2 hours trying to wrestle with a very temperamental windlass inching the line and chain aboard painstakingly slowly. All hands were on deck tackling this issue so no video was shot, but the wind died down, and we had an even boat to sail and munch before returning to Maple Bay Marina."
