What's Your Yacht Club Doing On Summer Sailstice?

On the solstice weekend Southern yacht clubs may be just starting to 'reason with hurrican season' while those in the North are putting on the last coast of varnish before launching for the long days of the short summer sailing season.  Regardless of Latitude all clubs know it's not the summer season ahead - it's the sailing season ahead and it's the right time to hoist sails and celebreate sailing.  Following is a sampling of clubs making plans for their club and Summer Sailstice celebatations.

New York: In upstate New York on Lake Sartoga the Saratoga Lake Sailing Center if offering free sails during an open house on Summer Sailstice.

Alabama: On America's 3rd coast, the Gulf Coast, Summer Sailstice regulars, the Point Yacht Club, will once again host a beach cruise-in for sun, fun and sailing.

Colorado: high in the Rocky Mountains the Carter Lake Sailing Club will open their facilities for a public sailing open house.  Sail in!

California: Yes, that Auld Mug, will be on display with a talk by Tucker Thompsan, sailboat rides, Goslings Dark 'N Stormies and a full open house at Encinal YC in Alameda.

Maine: Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club will host a Shakedown, parade of sail, crew match and cookout on Summer Sailstice weekend.  

Connecticut: Sachem's Head Yacht Club will start the summer sailing season with their Opening Day Celebration.

Georgia: Summer heat in Georgie makes a summer escape to Lake Lanier ideal.  Lake Lanier Yacht Club will host a Reggae Regatta for Summer Sailstice weekend.

Maine: North in the long summer days the Rockport Boat Club will be hosting youth on 6 420s to start the summer sailing season.

California: On San Francisco Bay the Corinthian Yacht Club will start the weekend of sailing with their weekly Friday night race.  Best way to end a week and start a summer weekend.

New York: On America's 'freshwater coast', the Great Lakes, the Rochester Yacht Club for sailing from 2-5pm and party on the docks after.  It's summer, just do it!

 

Seattle: Corinthian Yacht Club in the Pacific Northwest will be cruising with members for a weekend Father's Day Cruise.

As a sailing friend used to say, 'You only get so many summers'.  Summer Sailstice weekend on June 18/19 is the perfect time to launch your summer of sailing.  If not then, when?  Put your yacht club on the map and get your members, friends, family and guests to start their summer with a celebration of sailing.  Then continue to sail all summer long!
