CORTEZ YACHT CLUB, Cortez Florida - Our race day stated at the dock with a cold breakfast buffet and captain's meeting. It was a sunny Florida morning with temperatures in the 80's and very light winds. Nine boats raced a twice around figure-eight course in the Gulf of Mexico from Longboat Pass buoy down to the mark one mile south. With top speed winds of only 6.2 knots from the southwest and an outgoing tide, we did a lot of tacking. The Bayfield schooner Adeline took first place (before and after PHRF corrected times). A recorded Jimmy Buffet hosted happy hour back at the dock with flank steaks, and salmon fillets on our grills, wrapping up a GREAT sail on the longest day of 2004!

Laura Ritter was kind enough to send in this report from Florida after we had exchanged several emails trying to straighten out the t-shirt order we messed up. I think we finally got her the burgee and t-shirts she wanted but we've got to work on a better system for next year! Laura thanks for your patience and glad you enjoyed Summer Sailstice.
