Friday afternoon on the 18th, a Catalina 42 at the docks of Treasure Isle Marina clocked 47 knots on the anemometer as they prepared for the opening of the San Francisco Summer Sailstice festival. Looking ashore, one by one the tents set up for the next day, leaned over, bent and just blew away before landing on the riprap and waterfront. Such was the start of Summer Sailstice on San Francisco Bay.
Despite this inauspicious start the day broke clear but still windy for the days festivities. However, the YRA race for the Summer Sailstice OCSC Perpetual Trophy came off out on the Bay, free sailboat rides were given to hundreds of new sailors, treasure hunts were held on the beach and Pacific Island dancers and rock 'n roll entertained crowds ashore.
