Summer Sailstice 2005 - New York

A great sailing weekend concluded with Summer Sailstice 2005 in New York. With Dead Horse Bay protecting us from a stiff easterly breeze, nine boats including one from neighboring Mirama YC rafted up Sunday afternoon. The boats started gathering at 2PM and by 4PM our 2nd annual Bells & Whistles Celebration rang out, the clouds departed, the breeze died, and the sailors of the Deep Creek YC welcomed in another summer. Kalunamoo, Calico Jack, Island Girl, Kasi, Peregrine, Jeanie II, Wave Dancer, Stella Luna, and Second Wind provided enough deck space for the more than the two dozen sailors to hop from boat to boat. Sharing food and drink the party lasted almost to sundown when each boat reluctantly departed back to its own berth. Orange flags and t-shirts were in evidence as Sailstice becomes a popular growing event to welcome in summer and to celebrate the joys of sailing.
