As the 2014 summer sailing season closes we have completed the prize drawing, sent award notices and have received many great stories back! Here's a sampling from few happy winners:
Leading off is Diane who won a winch handle from Lewmar! Diane was part of the Red Brook Harbor Yacht Club women celebrating the Sailstice with brunch at the Black Dog in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard. Diane had a great time sailing to Vineyard Haven on three women captain and crewed sailboats!
Laura from Florida won a set of chafe guards from Spiroll! She sent us some pictures of her sail off the coast of Florida. The lighthouse is Egmont Key (as they were leaving Tampa bay) and the other is about 10 miles offshore approaching Clearwater beach.
Russ in Pentwater, Michigan won a new Vetus Windlass! This is the first year that the Pentwater Yacht Club participated in Summer SAILstice and Russ reports they will be doing it again next year for sure!
Barbara won a winch handle from Schaefer Marine all the way in Australia! Barbara's shipmate Jim wrote in to say, 'it was a nice, warm day with clear blue skies and many dolphins and a few humpbacks to entertain us. Barbara and I were out with our granddaughter Abi and her boyfriend Adean. She has been here for the past year attending high school. Getting ready to return to her mum in Oregon to finish high school in the States. We sail on a Hallberg Rassy 36. We left Seattle in 2008, sailed across the Pacific and 5 months later I was working at RAAF Base Williamtown on their Wedgetail airplanes. I work for Boeing and we had sold 6 of the Wedgetails to the RAAF. I talked my boss into a 5 month leave of absence. Barbara and I, along with our 9 year old granddaughter sailed off to the other side of the world. We have been here ever since. We plan to return to the US, but not sure when. We generally sail in the Pt Stephens area, just a little North of Newcastle, NSW. "
Nice work Barbara and Jim! Sailing a beautiful boat across the world with your grandaughter! What a special adventure!
Switlik Techfloat winner Anthony happy to have his prize secure on board!
Jim submitted this photo off of his friends phone. His friend is a little challenged with the smart phones, but considering she is over 80 and still boating, she is doing pretty good. We did a little sail past their boat and off into the sunset and she captured this image.
Bob of Cambridge Maryland is happy with his Spiroll Chafe Guards. "I have installed the Spiroll Chafe Guards on my bow dock lines -- picture below. Nice product. Easy to install and seems that it will perform as advertised."
More stories to come later! We love hearing about all the different boats, bodies of water, and ways that people celebrate Summer Sailstice! Make sure and sign up next year to be entered to win a prize and keep sending your photos and sailstice tales to abby@summersailstice.com!
