Last year (so not very long ago) we invited you to add your 2019 Summer Sailstice plans to the global map and, as a bonus, be in the running for some great prizes from Navionics, American Sailing Association and Samson Rope.
Well... dozens of sailors responded to the call and placed their sailing pins on the map:
...and not just in the USA. Sailors are signing up to sail in Italy, Greece, Canada, Bermuda, the Philippines, Phuket - and these only the ones who have already registered for 2019! Where will you be celebrating in June?
But in returning to the point of this story, we have some prizes to award to sailors who signed up for Summer Sailstice 2019, before January 1st.
The winners of the Navionics 2GB+ Charts are -
MikeC from the Sandy Bay Yacht Club. Mike will be sailing his Hunter 380, Bacchanal, in Cape Ann, MA.
Olson 30 "Peace" is heading out onto the water from Great Salt Lake Marina, UT.
Brewgyver is planning to sail his Catalina 30, My Sweet Girl to Santa Cruz Island anchoring Saturday night and returning Sunday, and would love other boats to join in. 'If you haven't been, it's a nice trip across the east Santa Barbara channel, past offshore drilling rigs, through the shipping lane, frequently with fair winds on the beam. Dolphins on the way, eagles and other wildlife on the island, great fun!'
These next three sailors have each earned themselves a copy of American Sailing Association's book, Bareboat Cruising Made Easy -
Swehl will be enjoying himself on San Francisco Bay aboard a club boat.
Mark has signed up the Saratoga Lake Sailing Club in Malta, NY to to introduce people to the sport of sailing with free sails on Saratoga Lake.
Bill has listed the 7th annual Disabled Veterans Sail Day which includes a BBQ at the Channel Islands Yacht Club. 'Each year we take veterans out for a day on the water.' - Nice work crew!
And the winners of the Samson Rope Docklines are -
Evan is set to celebrate Summer Sailstice on Lake George, NY as a volunteer with the Y Knot Sailing organization's adaptive sailing program! - Good on you Evan!
Jerry & Jean are organizing the annual BBSA (Broad Bay Sailing Association) & HYC (Hampton Yacht Club) celebration. This year they will be enjoying a 3-day Labor Day cruise to Pirates Beach off Fleets Bay in the southern Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. And if the idea of 'pirates' sounds a tad concerning, fear not, according to Jerry & Jean, 'What happens on Pirates Beach, Stays on the beach!'
Congratulations to the above prize winners! Though really, everyone who signs up for Summer Sailstice is a winner. You get to take your boat out, celebrate with like minded people locally and around the world - the prizes are just a bonus!
Sign up for Summer Sailstice 2019, add your pin to the map, and highlight the date on your calendar - June 22, 2019. You'll be in great company!
