Welcome aboard Rosanne de Vries. Ros started sailing in her youth in Australia. In the last few years, she re-caught the 'bug' and is now an avid sailor on the San Francisco Bay, as well as a chair at Island Yacht Club.
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m Ros de Vries, an avid sailor and community firebrand. I started off with youth sailing in Sydney, Australia-- but the bug didn't really bite until fairly recently when I took a keelboat class with j/24's at Treasure Island Sailing Center.
In the last 2 years, I've progressed from crewing in Bay and offshore races to owning and racing my own boat - a Santa Cruz 27, Medusa (#145).
I am the Publications Chair at Island Yacht Club (iyc.org), where I relaunched the IYC website and helped produce the first virtual IYC Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar in 2020. Island Yacht Club runs racing and social events all year round, both from Alameda Marina and online.
Making sailing accessible to others has always been a personal goal. Much of my creative work - including articles and photography for Latitude 38 magazine - has focused on everyday people finding happiness through sailing, even throughout the pandemic. The non-stop attention to so many variables (where is the wind? what is the fastest course?), meeting other sailors, the beautiful views from the water!

Tentatively - TI to Estuary parade, followed by lunch at Brotzeit Lokal.
