North St. Johns River, FL - 'Soggy Dollar' Redux

What a great event to officially ring in the Summer Sailing Season - Summer Sailstice !!! Lyn and Lew Everline hosted a great Saturday afternoon party at Amnity Anchorage. The “Soggy Dollar” Redux was the deal. “Painkillers” with official Pussers Rum was the offering of the afternoon (Lew has the authentic recipe- including fresh nutmeg). The summer afternoon storm did not thwart some very hearty and thirsty sailors. They were joined by at least eleven other boats for a comfortable late afternoon of partying on The St Johns. Caper- sailed by Peter Coris and his faithful crew (including their Lab, Sonny) came from Palm Coast Marina on the ICW to join the party. They get the recognition of the longest trip to join the event. Jeff and Rosemary Knoll get the award for having the fastest ride to the party in the Beneteau power launch. Jack and Mary Feeney get the notation for having the most colorful boat at the party. Good food came out of the cabins and Chef Dean cooked the Sailstice Burgers to perfection. The Soggy Dollar Redux just might become the Summer Sailstice official party for years to come.
That’s not all—Rich and Tricia Klimas invited this motley crew to their home for Sunday morning breakfast. Rich cooks a great omelet and they had a sumptuous spread. Their patio is an inviting place to spend a Sunday morning talking with sailors and friends. Some of the Land Cruisers joined the breakfast.

Thanks go out to the Everlines and the Klimas’ for great hospitality.

The summer presents great times for being on the St Johns. Safety Note: Just keep an eye out for the afternoon thunder storms and keep your hands off of the metal parts of the boat when the storms come in quickly around you. The static electricity has an attention getting tingle when is hits.

Next cruise is in August- Rear Commodore’s Cruise. See Don Gilbert notes for dates and times.

In September, the cruisers will be supporting the Hands on the Helm event in mid- September. The non-racers are welcome to come to the Rudder Club for the party. See the schedule of events else where in The Windscoop.

Mark the calendars for the Fernandina/St Marys/Cumberland Island Cruise. That is November 11-13 (Veteran’s Day Weekend). The temperature should be moderate, the winds mild, and the bugs minimal- sounds like the basic ingredients of great time sailing event and good sailing story swapping.
