To start the countdown to Summer Sailstice 2009 these Bay Area sailors headed out to for a sail on the shortest day of the year - and it all gets better from here!
Greetings, "NANCY" - Wyliecat 30 - with skipper Pat "Mr. YRA" Broderick and crew Erin "Quiet on the Set" Larsen and Danny "SEAson's Greeter" Joh, set sail from Richardson Bay Marina on an SEA (Sailing Education Adventures) Keel Boat Sail at 1100 Sunday Solstice morning in moderate rainfall and zero wind. The rain continued for about half an hour, then abated, the wind came up to 5 or 6 knots, and we enjoyed a pleasant, if chilly Solstice Sail around the lower end of Richardson Bay and Sausalito City Front.
We returned waves from the dining tourists at the Horizons and Spinnaker Restaurants, jumped ferry wakes for excitement, and looked seasonally cheerful in our bright foulies.
We traded tacks with SEA Keel Boat Sail Coordinator Leah Pepe, taking photos of each other's boats and crews. In honor of the day, our tacks were "short."
After an hour and a half, we observed another dark cloud moving our direction from Mt. Tam , so we headed back to the berth, put " NANCY " to bed, and made it to our cars before the rain began pelting down again.
Here are a few photos from the day.
