Jeff Grudin and his wife, Melissa, and their dog, Bosco celebrated this year's Summer Sailstice aboard their Jeanneau 47, Kismet -
'I had sailed up to Stockton on our friends Catalina 350 in the Delta Ditch Run race the weekend before, so our buddies were all up in the delta preparing for the fireworks off Mandeville Island on the 4th. So we decided to go for a sail by ourselves on our Jeanneau 47 "Kismet" for this year's Summer Sailstice. On board were me, Jeff Grudin, my wife Melissa, and our dog Bosco.'
'Kismet is still new to us and we are learning the intricacies of a new, and bigger boat We decided to sail in the South Bay and continue learning about her. The winds were steady and blowing about 25 knots most of the afternoon. We ended up shortening our main and with a full (110) jib we had a fairly balanced helm. It was a nice ride with no surprises.
Here is a 360 video of one of our tacks. I am new to 360 video and I hope to do more of them in the coming months. It is an exciting new medium and with VR goggles you can actually stand on our boat and go for the ride with us.
'Though Kismet is a long standing cruising veteran with trips from Alaska to Mexico, We are working on updating some of her systems and learning more about the ones she has. We are preparing for our first longer coastal cruise coming up in August. We will take a 4 day trip to Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Half Moon Bay.'
'Thanks for your support of Sailing and putting on this great event.'
You're very welcome Jeff, and thank you for sharing your story. We look forward to sailing with you again for next year's Summer Sailstice on June 23, 2018.
