Chicago sailing has been providing access to sailing since 1986 and, as they say on their site, they firmly believe that sailing is more than just sport, it's a way of life. With their commitment and obvious enjoyment of sailing on Lake Michigan it's also great to see them celebrating Summer Sailstice with local partner the Columbia Yacht Club. Here's a pic and story from their site:
Celebrating Sailstice!
This past Saturday was a special day at Chicago Sailing! Every year on the Saturday closest to the Summer Solstice, sailors gather around the world to celebrate Sailstice, the global holiday of sailing. This year we teamed up with Columbia Yacht Club to make our event even more fun.
The day kicked off with a fun race aboard our decked-out J/22′s. We had to scrap our original race course plan due to heavy fog on Lake Michigan (a persistent problem this June), the crib wasn’t visible from the shore line. Instead, we dropped a course in the lake and ran a series of shorter races.
Overall winner’s for the day, were on Claire’s boat. Crew aboard the boat included Rob Cleaveland, Jack Lyons, and birthday boy Carl Lyons! Congrats to all of our winners.
After the races boats returned to B Dock for a dock-side party. Check out a full album of shots from the day on our Facebook page.
We had a blast celebrating sailing with everyone and can’t wait until next year. Save the date for Sailstice next year on Saturday, June 20, 2015.
