Back in 1970 Frank Butler founded Catalina Yachts by launching the Catalina 22 hoping he might sell 300 of them. He went on to sell 16,000. That, combined with numerous other models leading up to the new Catalina 425 launching this week, has added up to 75,000 boats built during Butler's boatbuilding career - a career he still manages today as he continues now in his 90s.
You can read the story in the recent issue of Boat US magazine, itself celebrating a milestone this year with 50 years of serving US boaters.
Boat U.S. would like to invite all current Catalina owners to sign up, hoist their sails and set sail to celebrate sailing and both of these milestones in the world of sailing.
The fishing issue has a story on how Butler got hooked on sailing.
