Father Daughter Sail from Alameda

Boat:     Serendipity (21’ Pisces, knockoff of a Herreshoff Fish, no motor)

Crew:    Jonathan Ogle and daughter Martie Ogle

Area:     San Francisco Bay

We sailed from Alameda Marina on the Oakland/Alameda Estuary out to the Bay on a morning ebb, passed under the new Bay Bridge section, reefed down behind Treasure Island and shot across the slot to the eastern end of Angel Island.  After a while of bobbing about in the lee there, we tacked up Raccoon Straits and made our way to the Sausalito YC, where we tied up for a run ashore.  We looked at boats, had pizza while watching the World Cup and topped off with ice cream before heading back.  We ran back on the windward side of Treasure Island under a double reefed main, passing the outbound Matson ship, Moku Pahu, and shook out the reefs once we passed under the bridge into the East Bay.  The reach back up the Estuary with the last light of the day was magical.  We rounded up into our slip and dropped sails just as the Coast Guard cutters took in their flags, marking sundown.

Photos attached, and two video clips:

The first one was on the way back, running downwind towards the Bay Bridge, double reefed and moving smartly.  This was done after the rough sailing, because I didn’t want my phone out earlier.  The video is about a minute long and gives a nice sense of moving along and at the end comes around to meet the skipper.  http://youtu.be/wqPizaNvEmk

The second video was about 45 minutes later, back in the Estuary, passing by the Cosco America at the dock, late daylight, perfect breeze on the beam, crew off watch and just perfect sailing.  There is not a lot of action in the second video, even less dialog. http://youtu.be/6BfQ29T7NGo
