East Coasters are no slouches when it comes to Sailing. Right now they're leading the charge with Summer Sailstice celebrations popping up all over the place!
Paul Smutz is taking Friday off and sailing his O'Dea 20, Seamantha, on a long-weekend vacation on Barnegat Bay, NJ. "This is a great sailing area with lots of coves and islands to explore. I may even venture out of the inlet and go into some blue water."

Sail Erie, a group of 50 sailers who meet for fun and activities, is hosting the Summer Sailstice Brunch PI Marina Raft Up, at Presque Isle. Liberty Sailing Club of Philadelphia is hosting their annual Solstice Super Soaker, a water gun (cannon?) shootout on the Delaware River among their seven club boats (and the occasional uninvited guest). Although not for the faint of heart (translation: only members on the boats), friends can cheer on their favorite crews from the dock at Pier 5 or from Race Street Pier starting at 6 pm. Join us back at the clubhouse to congratulate the winners, commiserate with the losers, and learn more about Philadelphia’s active sailing scene.
Sail Nauticus in Norfolk, VI are inviting members and guests to join the Sail Nauticus Adventure Voyage to Portsmouth Park on the Western Branch. "Wind and weather willing, we shall dine in the grass onshore, so pack a lunch and bring a frisbee!" Sail Nauticus is a non-profit community sailing center focused on inspiring our community through sailing.
Lake Townsend Yacht Club, NC is inviting all the Ladies to join the Summer SAILstice Women on the Water Practice Day. "Ladies, come on out for SAILSTICE and participate in this global sailing celebration! Get 1-on-1 sailing instruction to prepare for our September 10th Women on the Water event. Experienced female skippers, this is your opportunity to help other women grow as sailors. Men, this is your opportunity to "Pay It Forward" and coach a newer female sailor, or just come help out on shore."
Celebrate Summer Sailstice on the Patuxent River. Plan to raft up on St. Leonard's Creek, near Vera's White Sands Restaurant, MD after a day of sailing on the Patuxent River and Chesapeake Bay.
Keyport Yacht Club, NJ is holding the Sailstice Open House. Visitors will be given a quick tour of the club, and can learn first-hand on subjects including - Adult Sailing Lessons, Kids Sailing School, Sailboat Racing and Introduction to Sailing. "For the more adventerous (weather permitting), our club members will host visits on their sailboats at their moorings. What's it like to cruise and race a sailboat? You'll hear first-hand as owners let you practice sailing skills on their "yacht" while sharing their personal stories about sailing." Visitors can also take a sight-seeing ride through the fleet on the club's two launches. The NY/NJ Baykeeper is also participating and will have displays showing how the oysters and natural seagrasses they are returning to the bay can clarify our water, protect our shores, and enrich wildlife. Their classic wooden workboat, "Baykeeper" will also be on hand for rides.
Sound Sailing Center is hosting an Open House. "Our SailStice Open House includes sailboat trips on some of our 16 boat fleet from 23' Ensigns to our J44. We will be taking out our CS 30 and Hanse 320. We will include docking, reefing and Man Over Board recovery demonstrations too. Drinks and a light lunch will be served."
Queen Parrotfish (aka Sharon) will be sailing her Island Packet 35, Lucille, on Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. "These are just a few days during a two week summer cruise. We will be sailing the Chesapeake Bay from Rock Hall and Annapolis to Solomons Island to as far south as the Rappahannock River or Tangier Island, depending on weather and wind."
plapier (aka Paul) is taking his Catalina 36 MK II, Ra'iatea out on a "Cruise from Annapolis,MD to Worton Creek, thru the C&D Canal, then south out of Delaware Bay to Cape May, NJ. Return similar route with stop in Havre De Grace and Annapolis."
Join the ARC DelMarVa Rally on a "Counter clockwise loop with overnight runs. Departs from Annapolis, MD. Stops in Norfolk,VA, Cape May , NJ, then back to Annapolis. Includes an offshore leg non-stop from Norfolk to Cape May."
Mitchell from Gloucester City Sail is sailing the Schooner Northwind on the Delaware River. "This year is a family reunion, followed by a VFW sail."
