Contest Winners Announced!

Contest Winners Announced!

Voting and judging for the Summer Sailstice 2017 Contests, except the Video Challenge, offically ended last Sunday (July 30). Read below to see how they all turned out and who won.

SEA SHANTY SHAKE
Contestants were asked to send in a video or voice recording of themsleves, or their merry band singing their favorite sea shanty during their Summer Sailstice celebrations. This year's contestants went crazy and performed fun medleys and mash ups of their favorite sailing songs. We received two entries, and to be honest, they were too-close-to-call.

And here's why...  We loved Donna Lee's 'Aloha from Hawaii'. The band was polished and tight, offered great harmonies, and could clearly play in unison. Plus they played interesting songs, presumably Hawiian tunes. Our second entry, Gary Kirkham's 'Jolly Roger Pluckers', blended the well known tunes flawlessly and provided a couple of additional distractions - the guitarist's last-minute entry from stage left was reminicent of a symphonic stage performance, and the background dancers complemented the cool island vibe perfectly, as did the pirate's eye patches. So you can imagine what we were up against in deciding first and second places.

Therefore we declared a tie. Both entries will share a First Place Win and each will take home a Kala Brand Waterman Ukulele, a 1-year subscription to Ukulele Magazine, a tube of McLube Speed Polish or Conditioner, and a 2GB Custom Navionics Chart.

SUMMER SAILSTICE RAFT UP, 2017!
The Raft Up Competition entrants had to do just that, raft up! Oh, and send us a photo. Here are the placings.
First Place goes to Tim Ferris's great shot of SV Tubby, AdventureUs, Maid Marion I and Maid Marion II rafted up for Summer Sailstice. Tim has won the extra-long EasyStow Fender, plus a 2GB Chart from Navionics and a Mantus Anchors Tshirt and Bottle Opener.
Second Place goes to Michelle Dial and Chad Duplantis who sent in photos of Spindrift Sailing Club's Summer Sailstice raft up on Lake Oologah, Claremore, Oklahoma. Michelle and Chad win a set of fenders from Polyform US, plus a Navionics App and a Mantus Anchors Tshirt.
Third Place - Lorie Eadie wins a Navionics App, a 1-year subscritpion to Cruising Outpost, and a Mantus Anchors Tshirt.
Fourth Place - Kim Dumas from West Coast Mulithulls wins a Navionics App, a 1-year subscritpion to Cruising Outpost.
Fifth Place - Gary Kirkham wins a Navionics App - perhaps it will help him find his club's 2018 Summer Sailstice Raft Up!
