Cleveland Race Week (CRW) is the largest sailing regatta on Lake Erie and one of the largest on the Great Lakes. The annual event, now celebrating its 37th year, attracts hundreds of boats from across the Great Lakes and beyond.
This year CRW's participation in Summer Sailstice won the event a weekend weather forecast from Commanders’ Weather.
‘Commanders’ Weather was posted each day and the competitors were able to review and prepare for what was a very breezy event. It was reasonably accurate and assisted in planning.’
The regatta was hosted by Edgewater Yacht Club, which at 103-years-old recently celebrated its Centennial anniversary. Organizers of the 37th annual CRW also partnered with Sailors for the Sea to run a ‘Clean Regatta’ - the world’s only sustainability certification for water-based events.
CRW regularly attracts over 1500 national and international participants and this year drew competitors from five countries and included six world champions, three Olympians, and several former America’s Cup sailors. More than 400 sailboats enjoyed 10 days of racing with close to 200 start sequences and countless course changes in what was described as ‘one of the overall best weather events we have had’. No races were cancelled due to inclement weather.
The 12 day event was made possible by the efforts of over 1800 sailors, and more than 350 volunteers.
