Despite high mountain altitudes, droughts, heat, traffic and others seeming obstacles to escapes for a sail the desire to get on the water in a sailboat gets fulfilled all across the US and around the world because sailors just have to make it happen. That was true for Debbi Dethley and Art Blevins who tapped into one of the Denver areas favorite sailing retreats, Chatfield Lake in Littleton, CO. High altitude sailing seems an unlikely opportunity but those altitudes bring snow and spring brings snow melt which has to go somewhere. Luckily for many they know how to sail and take advantage of it in the lakes and reservoirs in the mountains.

Debbi and Art sent in a picture of their sail in the early morning aboard a J-22 before the 100+ degree heat took hold. We’ve searched google images and found a couple other photos of sailing on Chatfield Lake which also includes the Victoria Sailing School and the Colorado Sail and Yacht Club which has the mission statement: Colorado Sail and Yacht Club is a community of boaters and enthusiasts located at Chatfield Reservoir. All boaters are welcome, whether you own a boat or not, or whether you just like being around other boaters. Whether you are a discriminating owner, a seasoned crew, a young family with your first boat, or just interested in boating, our club is here for you.

Nice to find sailors everywhere and inviting more to join and learn how to escape the land life for some relaxation under sail. Even a mile above sea level!

Debbie and Art enjoying a sail a mile above sea level as temperatures head towards 100 degrees for the day.  Looks like the best place to be in all of the Denver area on June 23rd!

Another sailing shot of Chatfield Lake.

You can see where the water for sailing comes from in this picture.  Nice to enjoy it winter and summer!
