Chicago Foggy Sailing

Chicago Foggy Sailing

In Chicago, recently a contender to host the America's Cup, also had the Northwest Sailing Association hosting a "fogstice" sail for Summer Sailstice.  It's not ideal weather for the America's Cup or for Summer Sailstice but it is ideal weather for getting together with other sailing friends.  This, of course, is why the Northwest Sailing Associtation exists.

More from the Commodore of the NWSA:

The longest day, and an even longer weekend…

Larry Hagemann's Summer Sailstice event turned out very well. The Lake Michigan boats had quite the fog, while those of us on Lake Mendota braved an afternoon shower. My photo to the left shows Joe Rittner and crew in Joe’s Bargello heading out. After the sun set on the year’s longest day, the temperature fell and the fog found us on Lake Mendota, too. See photos in the Communique and the online Photo Gallery.

That night all of the humidity seemed to find the tent on my boat and soaked it through. Amazingly, I stayed dry inside. It worked. Lucky me!

See my photo of the set-up to the right.

That weekend reminded me of how much I really like our “long weekend” sails. A day sail is great fun, but after a couple of days on the water, you quickly forget everything.

So if you can spare that extra day, consider joining us for either the Door County or Green Lake sails. Both are wonderful getaway weekends.

See you on the water!
