Now that the holiday season has passed and we’re on the other side of the winter solstice, it may be a good time to take a look at the summer ahead and make your sailng plans. This year Summer Sailstice is on the weekend of June 24, so you’ve got 5 months left to get on board. If you’re looking for some ideas, or maybe a new sailing opportunity, take a look at what the San Francisco Bay based schooner Freda B has planned for her summer.
Freda B is an 80’ gaff-rigged topsail coastal schooner that has been operating private and public charters on San Francisco Bay and the California coastline for over 20 years. This coming summer Freda B has a full schedule of sailing and events, which will see her sailing to the Pacific North West between her regular Spring and Fall bay schedules.
At the end of May, Freda B and her crew are heading to Oregon for the Coos Bay & North Bend Festival of Sail, Tall Ship Festival on June, 1 - 4. Unfortunately the sail uphill will be crew-only, but if you happen to be in Coos Bay that weekend you’ll be able to sign up for a 90 minute sail aboard the beautiful schooner.
Next, Freda B is taking a 5-night, full-moon exploration of the San Juan Islands on her way to the Tacoma Festival of Sail. Sailors and non-sailors alike are invited to join the captain and crew for this trip, together with a professional naturalist who will be on hand to fill you in on the local environment and wildlife. This cruise is now open for bookings, so don't delay. Make sure you get your bunk on this one and enjoy some of the Pacific's best sunrises, sunsets and moonrises, while discovering the San Juan Islands and wildlife.
