On the afternoon/evening of Friday the 22'nd sailors of the Back Yard Boat Builders met at Hart State Park to become reacquainted and forge new friendships over burgers cooked on the “Barbie”. And later campers listened to the guitar and harmonica played by fellow sailors. Saturday morning lots of kids turned out to learn how to build toy sailboats. They all created little boats that they hand carved. Everyone loved naming their boats and even got to sail them on the lake. Sailors in regular sized boats went out for a lovely sail on the lake. The day was so hot that some few daring souls jumped in! The whole event was pirate themed and many of the kids loved dressing up in pirate attire (as did the adults).
There were many a shifty pirate characters about! In fact a mock pirate battle ensued on the lake complete with miniature cannons, creating fun for all who participated! There were folks on shore watching the battle, which rivaled the pirate battles in Pirates of the Carribean! Saturday night a cookout was hosted with a “smorgasbord of awesome food all fit for a sailor” and some home brewed beer. After the festivities wrapped up most everyone either left for home or crashed in their sleeping bags after a long day of fun on the Sailstice. The Back Yard Boat Builders Sailors created an evening of Summer Sailstice memories and are already anticipating next year's fun!
