All day Race/Cruise on Lake George, New York

Sailors on Lake George, in the Hudson Valley of New York, participated in a “Lake George to Ticonderoga Classic” organized by Kyle LaVoy.

Racers appreciated the first beautiful weekend that upstate New York has seen in a long time. The wind varied from -0- to maybe 10 knots but mainly erred towards the lighter end – there was just enough that everyone managed to get most of the way home before total darkness.  According to La Voy, they were a bit light on the entrees this year. Seven went the distance under spinnaker and three to Gull Island without.  Three Martin 16's also joined for the Sprint Race around Dome.  The event was made possible due to support from Yankee Boating Center, Y-Knot, Camp Chingachkook, and individuals who not only participated or donated, but also helped run things.

Despite light winds, says participant Bill Dutcher, “close-reaching under spinnaker to the finish at sunset was unforgettable. Sailing through the Upper Basin of Lake George in Upstate New York is a treat, and this race gives all sailors the excuse to annually appreciate why we live here: the unending beauty, largely unspoiled north of The Narrows.”
