"In the summer of 1982 when Robbie Doyle started Doyle Sailmakers "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" by Linda Ronstadt was a popular song. We have always used silver thread and grey sail bags but no golden needles. This year we did black tees and sweatshirts with silver logos for a throwback. Sailing makes for great memories!"
Doyle Sailmakers was founded in Marblehead, Massachusetts in 1982, and has since grown to comprise over 80 sail-lofts around the world.
Founder Robbie Doyle combined his background in Applied Physics and his strong racing record in the America's Cup to create breakthrough products, and sail design and engineering processes. Following the hydrodynamic design advances behind the famous winged keel of America's Cup winner Australia II, Doyle Sailmakers was the first loft to apply the principle of Elliptical Aerodynamic Loading to sail shapes, leading to fast and efficient sails for Doyle's racing customers.
However, Doyle Sailmakers isn’t only about racing sails. Wether you’re racing, cruising, wether you’re on a large or a small boat, Doyle Sailmakers strives for the right combination of sailmaking art, quality and innovation, and customer service. You can even have your own designs, colors and graphics printed, inlayed, inked or appliquéd on to your sails!
“As the company has grown into an international organization with worldwide resources, we've never forgotten that the measure of our success is not the size of our company but our clients' satisfaction.” - Robbie Doyle
